Today’s 9th BBL match was played between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat. Brisbane won the toss and decided to bowl first. For Sydney, the two opening batsmen were Sam Konstas and Matthew Gilkes, while for Brisbane, Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled the first over.
Both Sydney openers built a brilliant partnership of over 120 runs in just 13 overs. After that, Sam Konstas got out for 63 runs. Then Sam Billings came in and scored 25 runs before getting out as well. After him, David Warner came to bat but was dismissed for only 7 runs. Then Daniel Sams came in. Matthew Gilkes played a great innings but was eventually dismissed for 76 runs. Sydney Thunder gave Brisbane a target of 193 runs.
For Brisbane Heat, the opening batsmen were Jack Wildermuth and Colin Munro, while Reece Topley opened the bowling for Sydney. Then Shadab Khan took wickets of both Munro and Wildermuth in his very first over.
After that, Matt Renshaw and Hugh Weibgen came to bat, but Shadab didn’t let them stay long at the crease — he bowled out Renshaw for 43 runs. Then Tom Alsop came in. Later, Daniel Sams bowled out Weibgen for 30 runs.
In his final over, Shadab Khan got Alsop stumped, and Sams took one more wicket in the last over.
Sydney Thunder won the match by 34 runs, and Matthew Gilkes was named Man of the Match. 🏏
